In 1988, Hot Topic revolutionized the shopping experience for young people. With no cool, music-inspired stores for both men and women, Hot Topic filled the gap. By 1990, they had added clothing to their music selection, including band T-shirts from Bauhaus, The Cure, TSOL, and Depeche Mode. In less than a year, they had over 50 different band titles and rock-inspired clothing lines like Lip Service and Serious. As they continued to grow, they found their customers were also interested in underground animation, cult films, and comic books. Hot Topic brought the world of South Park, Care Bears, Superman, SpongeBob, and many other pop culture icons to their customers.
